Barrier-free
Holidays for everyone is our motto. That's not that easy in a region where there are lots of small historical buildings, where small cutters and ships compete for space and where the "Halligen" islands with their dwelling mounds can't be simply redesigned. But the requirement and awareness of the importance of allowing everyone to holiday on the beautiful North Sea coast has changed over time and special working groups in Schleswig-Holstein are making efforts to improve conditions for mobility-impaired travellers in the region. For example, flyers containing lots of useful tips and information have been developed with the help of people with disabilities. The larger holiday resorts in the region, like St. Peter Ording, Büsum, Husum, Tönning and even the islands of Sylt, Amrum and Föhr are well equipped and provide lots of accessible options for people with disabilities who want to travel around and experience what the North Sea coast has to offer. For instance, there are beach wheelchairs, accessible entry points to the beaches, public WCs, accessible accommodation in all categories and places of interest that can be easily reached.
The following contains information for those with disabilities on holidaying on Schleswig-Holstein's islands and on its North Sea coast.
