Holidays for the golden years
The children have left home and the stresses of everyday life have abated somewhat. At last you have more time. Time for togetherness, travelling, culture, well-being and even a few adventures. Indulgence can now take priority. The idea of hurriedness remains at home and this new found time for the beautiful things in life fills the heart with a warm feeling. Moments become precious. Space for your senses – that's what a holiday by the North Sea coast is. Sense, taste, listen, look. The sound of the surf, the soft sand under your feet, the distant view.
There's enough space here for everybody. Those looking for peace and quiet will be just as satisfied as those seeking vibrancy. Here, you can walk for hours without seeing anybody. Beaches that go on for miles, like those on Amrum or in St. Peter Ording, make this possible. Nordic walking to the rhythm of the waves. Cycling on green dikes with only the sheep looking on.
And, to top it off, the best view you can imagine. Far off into the Wadden Sea National Park, Schleswig-Holstein, this most unique of landscapes, declared a world natural heritage site by UNESCO. Precious, unique and worth protecting. The rangers who work in the national park know a lot about this world of wonder and will gladly share their knowledge and help you in any way they can.
Counting birds, walking on the mudflats, gathering information, painting pictures, doing your yoga exercises by the sea, reading in your beach chair – here, everyone can do what they want and in their own time. Here, where nature has made a git of relaxation, well-being and freedom, balm for body and soul is always at hand.
When you're here, you simply breathe in health. The climate is unique and pure and each breath you take fills your body with vitality and oxygen. If you want more, you can pamper yourself in any of the region's spas.
With thalasso applications, the healing power of the sea can really work its magic.
Or perhaps you want to do something crazy again. Like visit a sauna by the beach, drink champagne in the sand dunes, eat oysters or sit in your beach chair on a balmy summer's night...
Here, there’s a lot to think about. Thomas Mann and Theodor Storm have left behind a fascinating legacy. As have all those who conquered the region. The wild landscape, the battle against the elements and the resilience of the inhabitants inspire artists right up to the present day. There are a multitude of ways in which to indulge your interest in art and culture here. Classic, modern, new, crazily unique. Emil Nolde captured the fascinating landscape of the region in his paintings. Here, you can visit the gardens immortalised in his paintings, smell the flowers and take in the beauty for yourself. And do so at your leisure.
The fruits of the sea and the fat of the land are prepared beautifully here. And it is you the gourmet who decides what to try. Whether it's fresh crab sandwiches direct from the cutter or something in a fancy restaurant cooked by a top chef. Schleswig-Holstein tastes delicious. This motto is confirmed by the many culinary events held in the region. The Schleswig-Holstein Gourmet Festival, "Feinheimisch", "Käsestraße" (Cheese Street), "Dithmarscher Kohltage" (Dithmarschen Cabbage Festival), "Nordfriesische Lammtage" (North Frisian Lamb Festival), "Husumer Matjestage" (Husum Matie Festival) – these are the names of just some of the culinary highlights that this coastal region has to offer. And then there's all the farmyard cafés, dairies and farm shops that tempt visitors to take some tasty little breaks on their travels.
At some point, all the visitors have to leave. But we stay here.
Because we have conquered time.
The best years of your life...
