Hallig Langeness - The hallig
The youngest, the largest, the longest – Hallig Langeness can claim these three titles. About 120 people live here on 18 warfts. Some of them still work the land and invite you to spend your vacation on a hallig farm. There are also comfortable holiday apartments on almost all the other warfts. The salt meadows in the east are reserved for the birds. In the summer, they are the nesting grounds, and in spring and fall they area resting place for migratory birds. The highlight for bird lovers is the annual “Brant Goose Days” celebration with a variety of nature programs.
And the hallig has all the criteria for a relaxing vacation close to nature: a well-stocked store, restaurant, and café, a historical hallig church, two local history museums, the info center for the Wattenmeer reserve station, and a wide range of events from theater to mudflat excursions.
For 80 years, Langeness has been connected by a tram causeway – via Oland – to the town of Dagebüll on the mainland. Since 1968, ferries from Schlüttsiel dock there daily. From there, you take the comfortable “Hallig Express”, rent a bicycle, or go by foot. Vacation guests can be picked up by their hosts.
