Nordfriesland - The region
“Rüm hart – Klaar Kimming” (big heart – clear horizon) as the Frisians like to say. Way up north in Germany, the word big has a special meaning.
The big land spreads out before you like a natural carpet. Under the blue skies are dikes, fields, meadows, and the big, big Wattenmeer. Its colors are sometimes so surrealistic that it inspired artists and writers. The most famous son of the region is Emil Nolde. In his many works, he captured the concentrated beauty of Nordfriesland. His home was Seebüll and here you can stroll through his garden and see the Nolde Museum.
In the midst of the idyllic landscape are the health spas Bredstedt, Leck, and Niebüll and the vacation region Wiedingharde. Bredstedt, a typical North Frisian city, Leck, an old trading town, and Niebüll in the center of the region. Nature enthusiasts will especially love Wiedingharde – directly at the gateway to Sylt.
Dagebüll with its grassy beaches on the coast invites you to swim and sunbathe. In Dagebüll is the gateway to the world of islands and halligs. Föhr and Amrum are not far off and the tours of the Wattenmeer National Park and the unique halligs start in Schlüttsiel.
You really should ride a bicycle or walk here. That is the best way to discover the unique nature and the beauty of the towns. Nordfriesland is a vacation area that combines all needs. Families with children can make interesting explorations in the mudflats and nature enthusiasts can go on excursions, and it’s the perfect place for those who just want to enjoy.
