Nordstrandischmoor - The hallig
More than any other hallig, Nordstrandischmoor was flooded again and again and its face has continuously changed. Nordstrandischmoor now measures only 175 hectares. And it will probably remain this large, as a stone wall now protects the hallig from losing more land. The 27 inhabitants live on four warfts, or earthen mounds. Three children attend the hallig elementary school. The church was not rebuilt after it was destroyed for the fourth time. There is a chapel integrated in the tiny hallig school. Burials were held at the small hallig cemetery until 1927. The graveyard with the white marble gravestones has been named a historical monument.
There is now even a restaurant – reservations recommended. Hallig Nordstrandischmoor is connected to the Beltringharder Koog by a railway causeway. The vehicles: open trolleys with which the hosts pick up their guests in a fitting manner. Day visitors usually arrive on the seafloor, by foot, or on the excursion ships.
