St. Peter-Ording – The town
Houses on stilts, kilometers of beach, a unique dune landscape, and racing sand yachts ¬– that’s the image of the largest town on the Eiderstedt peninsula on the North Sea coast. It was shaped by many TV series and movies. The incredible natural backdrop has inspired numerous artists, storytellers, and of course vacationers as well. The traditional houses on stilts are visible from afar. The concept of space is given a whole new meaning on the incredible beach, twelve kilometers long and two kilometers wide. Here sports enthusiasts, silent hikers, and nature fans can all do their thing without getting in each others’ way. Kite surfing, wind surfing, sand yachting, or beach volleyball are not only for leisure athletes; the world elite of theses fun sports meet here for world championships. The optimal conditions here make for exciting competitions and are a unique backdrop for major concerts and event.
The beach is one attractive side of St. Peter-Ording, also affectionately abbreviated SPO. But it also has many other attractions. The North Sea health and sulfur resort on the coast of Schleswig-Holstein is divided into four sections. Active, health-conscious, family-friendly, and close to nature – the spread-out town combines all these facets, connected by a good bus network. After long cycling tours and hikes, families gather in the Dünen-Therme, the seawater wave pool with a large sauna and adventure zone. In the adjacent wellness area, you’ll find relaxation for body and soul. Children and youth can play on the beach, at attractive playgrounds and in the playhouse, see seals and many other animals live in the Westküstenpark & Robbarium, or join in one of many entertainment programs.
